It was simply "Don't touch the capital." Capital, in the form of money or income producing buildings, was the source of all income.

Property holdings and invested funds produced an unceasing stream of cash flow. The wealthy lived off the interest or rent, and never touched the capital.

So put your winnings into commercial property, bonds or other financial instruments recommended by your HNWI advisor, and live off the income forever. Because once your capital is spent, it's gone forever.
